Car parking issues

Car parking issues

Olney RFC Publicity31 Mar 2023 - 22:55

...Club looks at innovative solution.

The Club is well aware that the popularity of the sporting facilities at The Rec can mean parking issues in the East St car park and, on very busy days, the surrounding areas.

All the sporting clubs encourage people to, wherever possible, walk (you are about to play a sport - even if that’s cricket!), car share and generally be thoughtful & considerate about their parking.

The Club was recently approached by a car park operating company with a view to utilising the land on Doff’s Field for both parking and rugby and we are pleased to announce that in the early hours of this morning a contract was signed.

Architects ‘Una, Avril & Iocus’ have been commissioned to design a car park which doubles as a sports venue (with a 4G artificial rugby pitch). This will be similar to the ones at the University of Colorado, Colorado springs and Pomona College, California They will work with Scottish construction specialist ‘Huntigowk & Day’

The Club Committee will be heading to the USA to undertake a 2-week tour of these facilities to understand how they can get the best from these facilities.

The estimated project cost is £8,008,135 and this will be jointly funded by the pair of Olney Town Council JUGs and The Independent Transport Solutions. Once completed, parking will cost £7.175 per day.

Given the importance of completing the project before all the summer “bathers” arrive, MKCC have agreed that planning permission will be granted unless any objections are made by mid-day today.
