Olney RFC Publicity25 Mar - 08:50

...Saturday was one of those!

From the off, we knew it was going to be busy with a touring side visiting the club, Jim Osborn finishing his 7 marathons, last home league fixture for the 1st XV and the 3rd XV at home all to be followed by a DJ and cocktail bar!

Busy? yes! Fun? you bet!

We welcomed Taff Wells RFC to the club for our first international of the year. The match went our way, but the post-match fun in the clubhouse was more closely contested. Club shields and gifts exchanged it was down to the real contests of the day...a doughnut boat race for the boys (“it’s got jam in it!”) and a cream egg boat race for the coaches – much hilarity and a draw!

Next, we cheered on Jim Osborn as he finished his epic 7 marathons in 7 counties in 7 days – well done Jim, raising over £6k and still going!

The 1st XV took on league champions Lutterworth in a great game which showed why they were worthy winners this year – another team with a very high percentage of home grown talent and we wish them well next season! It was testament to his role in the match that the Lutterworth 15 (Justin Trombas) was awarded Polar Events Player of the Match – enjoy the bubbles!

Meanwhile the 3rd XV match on Doffs 2 was entertaining the crowds as they played Heathens - a solid win, well done!

Then the best part – all the Clubs coming together to enjoy the evening. The Taff Wells team in sumo and Super Mario costumes, Lutterworth seemed to be wearing cooking equipment on their heads?! Both outdoing our retro rugby shirt theme! With a DJ and cocktails...it might have been a late one...but it was a great one!

A massive thank you to all the people who helped organise the various parts - without whom etc etc

In the words of our Chairman “Proper day that!”
