The Club would like to send its congratulations to Mark lay who has been recognised in His Majesty the King’s New Year Honours and awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services in harm reduction and preventing drug-related deaths.
“This is a deeply humbling moment, one that my family and I will treasure forever. This recognition reflects the dedication of so many colleagues, friends, and partners who share a commitment to supporting the most vulnerable in our society. Together, we will continue this vital work to protect those most in need and make a lasting difference in their lives.” commented Mark
Mark, a Lavendon lad, joined Olney RFC in 1990 playing for the 5th team on the fields in Emberton. He made his first-team debut in 1994 and went on to represent the Olney first team until his retirement in 2012, when he transitioned to playing and captaining 'The Occasionals'. Mark also represented Buckinghamshire in representative rugby for several years.
Beyond playing, he dedicated 12 years to coaching the Minis, Juniors, and Colts teams, helping foster the next generation of players. He has twice served as Director of Rugby and contributed significantly to the club’s leadership as a longstanding member of the committee.
Now, Mark continues to support the club in his role as one of it’s Directors.
Congratulations & Happy New Year
