We are delighted to announce that 3 ex M&J players will be returning to the men’s senior setup this season. All three players came through the same age group & it’s a great testament to everyone involved in their experience.
We welcome Struan Brooks back to Olney after a spell with Leicester Lions and ONs! Struan has spent the last 3 seasons playing for Hammerheads on the 7s circuit as well. Although he has had a tough season with injuries, we look forward to supporting his rehab and seeing him back on the pitch over the next few weeks!
The second of our returning players sees Jacob De Main back for this season! After taking last year away to go travelling and focus on his 7s, which also saw him representing Hammerheads on the National Circuit and in other tournaments across the world. It’s great to have Jacob back playing again - one of the most skilful players we have had at the club, we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch this weekend.
The final player announcement of the day is a popular one as we see Charles Rylands return to Olney after 5 seasons away. Charles went off to Cardiff Met uni where he played 3 seasons in the Super BUCS squad, which led to him then having a season in the Championship for Bedford Blues before spending the last 12 months over in Hong Kong playing full time. Charles is a fantastic player but an even better person and we are looking forward to seeing what he brings on and off the pitch.
Following on from the player announcements & ahead of the return of league rugby this afternoon at East Street, we have some more exciting news! We are proud of the coaching setup that has been put together here at Olney RFC, but we are always wanting to look to improve and continue to support the development of the players.
To that end, we are pleased to welcome Heath Stevens to the club to lead the defence this season alongside Ross, Parky, Kingy & Ted. Prior to going into coaching, Heath was a professional player at Worcester, London Welsh, Jersey and Coventry. Whilst playing, Heath started coaching which led to him working with Northampton Saints, Moulton College and ONs to name a few.
It’s great to have a different voice come into the coaching group and I know the players will agree that we have already seen a huge improvement over the summer. I am sure everyone at Olney RFC will give Heath a warm welcome
