An absolutely epic performance from the 14 who made the trip to Wymondham RFC this afternoon! In heavy conditions and several mince pies and cheese boards since Christmas, everybody had to dig deep and keep going until the final whistle.
Olney started off well and opened the scoring with a storming run from Kayleigh Beare after good interplay from forwards and backs. A competitive Wymondham were never going to let us rest on our laurels and fought back hard to level the scores.
With the upper hand, Wymondham pressed but Olney’s defence held firm to give a half time score of 7-7!
Olney regrouped at half time and realised that any victory was going to be hard fought. Fighting back after the break, and with the advantage of a slight slope, they continually tested the Wymondham defence, leading to a team try finished by who other than, Jennie Miles, which she duly converted.
From the kick off, Olney pushed back into Wymondham territory, knowing that a one score lead was far from enough! As a result, Kayleigh Beare battled over for her second try, once again converted by Miles! ??
However; Wymondham did not lie down and fought back hard to touch down in the corner despite good defence from the #PinkLadies to force them out wide.
From that moment, Olney put their tin-hats on and despite some post-Christmas handling errors, controlled the game in midfield. ? From yet another scrum, Miles spotted a gap and jinked through to score under the posts! Once again the try was converted to give Olney a 28-12 victory as the final whistle blew soon afterwards.
Thanks to Wymondham for great hospitality and a really competitive, hard fought game. We’re looking forward to reciprocating in a few weeks time!
